Join Our Backend Developer Team
We're looking for a Backend Developer with at least 2 years of hands-on experience building and maintaining the systems other applications actually run on — APIs, databases, and backend logic that need to stay fast and correct, not just work in a demo. You'll be comfortable primarily in Node.js and Express, with working knowledge of Python (FastAPI) and PHP Laravel for projects that call for them.
This is a primarily backend-focused role — you may sometimes be expected to own frontend or mobile UI work, and you should understand enough React, Vue, Flutter, or React Native to know how the APIs you build actually get consumed on the other end. Real-time features over WebSockets, GraphQL APIs, and backend services supporting push notifications (via Firebase Cloud Messaging or APNs) for our mobile apps are all part of the work here.
You'll be working directly on client backend systems from early on — CRM platforms, eCommerce backends, API integrations — deployed and maintained on cloud infrastructure like AWS. This is a full-time, work-from-office role based at our Kolkata studio.
How This Role Differs from Full Stack Developer (Web) and Full Stack Developer (Mobile)
All three of our development roles touch backend work — the difference is whether you also own frontend or mobile UI, and how deep the backend responsibility goes.
Full Stack Developer (Web)
- Frontend (React/Vue) + backend, web-first
- Ships websites and web apps
- Backend: Node.js, Laravel
Full Stack Developer (Mobile)
- Mobile apps (Flutter/React Native/Swift/Kotlin) + supporting backend
- Ships to the App Store and Google Play
- Backend: Node.js, Laravel, Firebase, Supabase
Backend Developer — this role
- Primarily backend and APIs — with some web frontend or mobile UI ownership.
- Ships backend services and APIs that other apps consume
- Backend: Node.js, Python/FastAPI, Laravel — the deepest backend specialization of the three
If you'd rather go deep on APIs, databases, and infrastructure than split your time with UI work, this is the role. If building the actual interface — web or mobile — is where you want to spend most of your time, take a look at Full Stack Developer (Web) or Full Stack Developer (Mobile) instead.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend systems and RESTful APIs primarily in Node.js and Express, with Python (FastAPI) and PHP Laravel for select projects
- Design and optimize database schemas and queries across MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and other databases depending on the project
- Build and maintain GraphQL APIs where they fit better than REST for a given client or project
- Implement real-time backend features using WebSockets — live chat, tracking, notifications, and similar functionality
- Build backend services that trigger and manage push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service (APNs) for our mobile apps
- Integrate with Firebase and Supabase where a project calls for backend-as-a-service features rather than a fully custom backend
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain backend services on cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Write clean, secure, well-documented backend code that the frontend and mobile teams can build against confidently
- Collaborate with frontend and mobile developers to make sure APIs actually match what the UI needs — not just what's technically correct
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve backend bugs, performance bottlenecks, and scaling issues
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of professional backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in Node.js and Express.js
- Working knowledge of Python, ideally with FastAPI
- Experience with PHP Laravel for select projects
- Solid understanding of REST API design; working knowledge of GraphQL
- Strong database skills across MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB
- Understanding of authentication, authorization, JWT, and backend security practices
- Comfortable with Git/GitHub or similar version control workflows
- Basic familiarity with frontend (React or Vue) or mobile (Flutter or React Native) is enough to collaborate effectively — with occasional UI development yourself.

Good to Have
- Experience with WebSockets for real-time backend features
- Familiarity with Firebase or Supabase as backend-as-a-service platforms
- Experience setting up push notification systems (FCM, APNs)
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Experience with Docker and containerized deployment
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
- Working knowledge of MS SQL Server or Oracle DB for enterprise projects

- Good communication skills, especially when explaining backend constraints to non-backend teammates
- Willingness to work across multiple backend stacks (Node.js, Python, PHP) as projects require, rather than insisting on just one
